Academic Advising is a series of supportive activities to assist students with achieving their academic and career goals. Advisors support students to:

• explore academic options and opportunities
• choose academic programs (majors, minors, and/or certificates) based on their interests
• select appropriate courses for their program of study
• monitor their academic progress
• connect with academic support resources
• stay informed about the University's deadlines, policies, and regulations

There are two types of advisors at TUJ: Academic Advisors in the Academic Advising Center (AAC) and Faculty Advisors. AAC advisors provide comprehensive academic advising covering all degree requirements, including General Education, college, and major/minor/certificate requirements. Faculty Advisors focus on the requirements for their respective majors and minors.

Advising by Professional Advisors

The Academic Advising Center (AAC) is staffed with full-time professional academic advisors who support TUJ's undergraduate students to develop an academic plan that aligns with TUJ graduation requirements and policies. Each student is assigned an academic advisor, based upon their major. Advisors assist students throughout their time at TUJ, from orientation to graduation. Students should meet regularly with their academic advisor to ensure that they understand and meet all of their graduation requirements, including General Education, college, and major requirements.

Advising is available on appointment basis throughout the year and can be scheduled in-person or via Zoom. Appointments are generally available between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment with an advisor, please access the Advising Appointment Scheduling System. Each advising slot typically lasts for 30 minutes.

Advising by Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors are available for students to discuss their academic goals and course selection, particularly for major and minor requirements. Through contact with Faculty Advisors, students gain an in-depth appreciation of a specific discipline and discover professional and academic opportunities associated with their field of interest.

Graduate School Advising

Faculty advisors are an important resource for students interested in pursuing graduate programs, such master’s or doctorate degrees. It is recommended that students meet with their Faculty Advisor for further information and suggestions, ideally by the time they have around 60 credits.

TUJ’s Career Development Office also provides graduate school advising and hosts events related to graduate school applications.
