Operating on a flexible 4-day class schedule (Monday-Thursday), our Kyoto offerings will target several different student populations seeking to study in Kyoto for a semester or two including: (i) first year and transfer students; (ii) students from our Tokyo campus; and (iii) study abroad students from the United States and other countries. Of note, students in Kyoto can concurrently take advantage of nearly 100 online courses offered through our Tokyo campus each semester.

For first year and transfer students, you can take advantage of first year writing, math, Japanese, Intellectual Heritage, and General Education courses at TUJ KYOTO. For students interested in a short-term study away experience, TUJ anticipates offering courses that focus on Japan, Asian studies, Japanese, tourism and hospitality, and General Education.

No, TUJ Kyoto does not currently offer full majors. Students will need to move to the Tokyo campus to complete their degree after a semester (or more). Admitted students should consult with their Academic Advisor to plan their academic program accordingly.

TUJ specializes in providing students with opportunities outside of the classroom. At TUJ KYOTO, we will have a team dedicated to providing you with pathways to an exciting student life that includes exploration, travel, service, and culture. It is our intent to expand our national award-winning internship program to Kyoto as well.

University-sponsored housing will be available through the university. Most university students in Kyoto reside in non-university housing such as shared houses and short-term private apartment rentals. Due to the central location of Kyoto, students can also choose to commute from nearby destinations such as Osaka or Nara.

It is a base for many high-technology industries and commerce, including the world headquarters of Nintendo. At the same time, Kyoto’s atmosphere is distinct from bustling metropolises like Tokyo.

Surrounded by picturesque mountains and blessed by serene gardens and scenic landscapes, Kyoto can provide a peaceful escape. Its commitment to preserving Japanese culture allows TUJ students to engage deeply with authentic practices.
