Welcome to TUJ Kyoto! We’re thrilled to have you join us, and we've prepared a series of exciting sessions to help you settle in, connect with your peers, and make the most of your time in Japan. Whether you’re living in TUJ Kyoto housing, exploring independent accommodations, or living with your family in Kansai, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

Tuesday, May 20

Arrival Day and Move-In Day

  • The staff and your RAs will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at your assigned Housing
  • Those who staying in independent housing, we look forward to seeing  you on May 21 on TUJ Kyoto Campus
Wednesday, May 21

Campus Check-In & Ward Office Visit for Visa Sponsored JA Students

  • Campus Check-In: The staff and our Student Workers will be excited to greet you at TUJ Kyoto with welcome packages, coffee, and cookies.
  • For visa-sponsored students staying in TUJ Kyoto Housing: Group ward office paperwork sessions and visits are pre-scheduled. When you check into your housing on May 20, you'll receive further details.
  • For visa-sponsored students in independent housing or homestays: You’re welcome to join our Ward Office Paperwork session. Be sure to visit your local Ward Office with your Residence Card to update your address. We’ll guide you through the process!
  • Free Time for Other Students:
    If you don’t fit into the categories above (e.g., local Japanese nationals with their own housing), feel free to enjoy some free time to explore Kyoto and relax before the next sessions!
  • Please note: We will not be providing lunch on this day.
Thursday, May 22

Joint Campus Check-In with Study Abroad Students

The morning sessions will be joint ones with Study Abroad students, offering a great opportunity to meet all your peers. Enjoy the chance to connect with new people and make lasting friendships! A light breakfast will be served at the Diamond Hall 2F Cafeteria. Be sure to hold on to your raffle ticket for a chance to win TUJ goods and more!

Dorm-by-Dorm Meeting

Come meet your peers in the same TUJ Housing. You’ll receive specific information about your housing and neighborhood, and you'll have the chance to get to know your RA better.

Campus & Neighborhood Tour

Join us for a guided tour of the TUJ Kyoto campus and surrounding neighborhood. Meet at Diamond Hall Entrance at 11:00 AM, and our Student Workers will show you around. You’ll visit support offices, discover local restaurants, and get familiar with our nearby shops.

Light Lunch with Current TUJ Students, the TUJ Kyoto Faculty and Team

Enjoy a light lunch at Diamond Hall 2F Cafeteria and meet your fellow students, the TUJ students who have studied at TUJ in Tokyo as well as TUJ Kyoto Faculty and Staff. This is the perfect chance to start making lifelong friends, study buddies, and finding mentors. We will do ruffle ticket drawing!

Living in Japan Info Session

This session will provide essential tips on living in Japan—everything from day-to-day necessities to cultural insights. We will also do some easy icebreakers!

College & Culture Adjustment: Stress Management and Self-Care

Adjusting to college life and/or a new country can be exciting, but it also brings challenges. Learn how to manage stress, navigate culture shock, and access resources to support your mental wellbeing. Our very friendly TUJ Counseling Office staff will be facilitating this session.

How to College: Skills for Success

Learn essential tips for academic success in a US university, including time management and study techniques as well as how to communicate with your professors. We’ll also introduce you to TUJ’s support services to help you thrive during your studies. There will be a few fun games and chances to win “Kawaii” prizes!

Intro to Academics & General Education

Explore academic life at TUJ with insights from TUJ faculty. This session covers an overview of the General Education program, academic expectations, and various exciting course experiences. Come meet Professor Swinton who founded Emerging Leader Program and Global Leadership Academy at TUJ Kyoto.

Friday, May 23

Student Veterans & GI Bill Info Session (30 minutes)

A casual and supportive session for student veterans and GI Bill users at TUJ Kyoto. One of the facilitators is a current student veteran, and we’ll discuss the resources available to you.

Financial Aid Session (30 minutes)

Money doesn’t grow on trees, and loans need to be repaid! This session will help you understand how financial aid works at TUJ and provide practical tips for managing your finances responsibly.

Last-Minute Registration with AAC

If you need to complete or update your class registration, this session is for you. Bring your laptop and take care of any last-minute class registration.

Career Development

Our Career Development Office assists you in developing skills necessary to identify the best career path before graduation. Services include individual career counseling, group seminars on job-hunting strategies, guidance on available internships, resume writing workshops, interviewing techniques, and more. Don’t wait until your graduation year to explore your career opportunities!

Setting Up Your Yucho (Japan Post) Bank Account

Learn how to open a Yucho (Japan Post) Bank account, essential for managing your finances while in Japan.

Lunch with Study Abroad Students, current TUJ Students, and Staff

Come together for lunch at Diamond Hall 2F Cafeteria and enjoy casual conversations with faculty and fellow students.

Visa Info Session – MANDATORY for All Student Visa Holders

This is a must-attend session for all students studying at TUJ on a student visa. Please bring your Residence Card and get the latest visa-related information.

Travel in Japan & Community Engagement at TUJ Kyoto

Get excited for the adventures ahead! We’ll share travel tips, as well as how you can get involved in Engagement Fridays and other community-building activities.

New Students Welcome Reception

We’ve prepared a special welcome reception just for you! There will be plenty of food and lots of opportunities to meet new friends and connect with special guests!
