Psychological Studies Major Requirements
The degree of Bachelor of Arts in College of Liberal Arts may be conferred upon the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 123 semester hours of credit with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 overall, in college and the major. A minimum of 123 credit hours will be earned in the following four requirement categories.
Required Courses (12 semester hours)
- Psychology 1061 (formerly C060), Psychology as a Social Science
- Psychology 1071 (formerly 0070), Psychology as a Natural Science
- Statistics 2101 (formerly C021), Statistical Methods and Concepts, OR Psych 1167 (formerly C067), Foundations in Statistical Methods
- Statistics 2102 (formerly 0022), Selected Statistical Topics, OR Psych 2168 (formerly 0122), Inferential Methods in Psychology
Psychology Science Requirement (PSR) (4 semester hours)
One of the following:
- Biology 1001 (formerly C071), Human Biology
- Biology 1011 (formerly C083), General Biology I
- Chemistry 1031 (formerly C071), General Chemistry I and Chemistry 1033 (formerly C073), General Chemistry Laboratory I
- Physics 1021 (formerly C085), Introduction to General Physics I
Group I and II: Required Psychology Electives (9 semester hours)
Three courses are required, with a minimum of one course chosen each from Group I and Group II.

- Psychology 2201 (formerly 0220), Foundations of Psychopathology (formerly 0150)
- Psychology 2301 (formerly 0200), Foundations of Developmental Psychology (formerly 0131)
- Psychology 2401 (formerly 0210), Foundations of Social Psychology (formerly 0141)
- Psychology 2402 (formerly 0215), Foundations of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (formerly 0170)
Group II - Prerequisite: Psych 1071 (formerly 0070)
- Psychology 2101 (formerly 0230), Foundations of Cognitive Psychology (formerly 0108)
- Psychology 2102 (formerly 0240), Foundations of Evolutionary and Comparative Psychology
- Psychology 2103 (formerly 0250), Foundations of Learning and Behavior Analysis (formerly 0105)
- Psychology 2104 (formerly 0280), Foundations of Sensation and Perception (formerly 0111)
- Psychology 2501 (formerly 0260), Foundations of Behavioral Neuroscience
- Psychology 2502 (formerly 0265), Foundations of Cognitive Neuroscience
Group III: Required Methodology and Research or Practicum I and II (minimum 7 semester hours)
Two courses total are required from Group III, 2196 (formerly W123) first, followed by 3791/3891 (formerly 0396/0397) or 3785/3787 (formerly 0398/0399)
- Psychology 2196 (formerly W123), Scientific Thinking in Psychology (formerly W123)
Prerequisites: Stats 2101 (formerly C021) or Psych 1167 (formerly C067), Psych 1061 (formerly C060) and Psych 1071 (formerly 0070)
One of the following:
- Psychology 3791 (formerly 0396), Collaborative Research I
Prerequisites: Psychology 1071 (0070), Psychology 2168 (0122) (or 0121) or Statistics 2102 (formerly 0022), Selected Statistical Topics, and a course in the 3000 series - Psychology 3785 (formerly 0398), Internship
- Psychology 3787 (formerly 0399), Practicum I
Prerequisites: Psych 2196 (formerly W123), junior/senior standing as a Psychological Studies Major, one letter of reference, and permission of instructor.
Group IV: Required Upper Level Psychology (6 semester hours)
Required: Any two courses from Psych 3000-3620, one of which must have a gender or culture emphasis.

Prerequisites: Psychology 1071 (0070), 2103 (0250) and 2196 (W123) - Psych 3221 (formerly 0321), Clinical Psychology: Research and Practice
- Psych 3223 (formerly 0323), Child Psychopathology and Treatment
Prerequisites: Psychology 1061 (formerly C060) and 2201 (formerly 0220) - Psych 3615 (formerly 0315), History and Systems of Psychology
- Psych 3000 SERIES (formerly 0320 and 0326), Topics in Psychology
(Topic varies each term and may include but is not limited to: Women and Society in Japan, Prejudice and Discrimination in Japan, Group Interaction and Performance, Eating Disorders Across Cultures and Throughout History, Culture and Psychology)
Prerequisites: completion of two 2000-level Group I and II courses in Psychology and Psychology 2196 (W123)
