This schedule is for Study Abroad Students attending Temple University Japan's Tokyo Campus only. Study abroad students applied through Temple University Main Campus Education Abroad Office and will stay in Japan for just one or two semesters. *Kyoto Campus students should receive information on their Welcome Week schedule through email. Your arrival to Japan and to TUJ is getting closer! We are very excited to welcome you into the TUJ community this Summer semester! 

Getting connected with other students, faculty, and staff, as well as exploring your interests is an essential part of any college experience. We have put together a New Students Welcome Week program full of activities and sessions that we hope puts you on track to accomplishing exactly this!   

Below you will find the calendar that will give you an overlook of what will happen during this week. Below that, you will find the week’s schedule in detail and a registration form to sign-up for a variety of sessions. The sessions are designed to be informative and fun, and we hope there is something there that interests you! Several of the sessions have capacity limits so please double-check your schedule and make sure you are able to attend the sessions you are signing up for. 

*Students will be provided with a small sticker passbook during Welcome Week! The sessions with a ticket icon next to them (🎟️) are sessions that will provide stickers to fill the passbook. Filling up your passbook will give you the chance to win some great prizes, so make sure to join as many sessions as possible!

Schedule by Day

Thursday, May 22nd - Attendance Mandatory

10AM-11AM Building Tours of TUJ, Starting in Cafeteria 
Meet in the Cafeteria of TUJ from 10:00 AM. Tours start at 10:15 AM. Student Workers will show you around the TUJ campus so you can familiarize yourself with the facilities and visit the student support offices. 

11AM-12PM Living in Japan Session, Rooms 301 and 303 
In this session, we will teach you the essentials of living in Japan! In addition, we will provide you with some health, safety, and mental health resources while living in Japan.

12PM-1PM Lunch with the Office of Student Services and Engagement, Cafeteria 
Join us for lunch! Food will be provided by the Office of Student Services and Engagement.

1PM-2PM How to Japan: Japanese Culture and Customs - Meet current students & get your questions answered, Rooms 301 and 303 
It may take a bit for you to adapt to living in Japan. Join this session to learn more about this country and how to adapt from current students!

2PM-3PM Travel in Japan Session - With Student Engagement, Rooms 301 and 303
Our Student Engagement Dept. has prepared a presentation about traveling in Japan! Learn about the activities and trips Engagement has planned for the semester as well as tips and recommendations for planning your own excursions!

3PM-4PM Art Major Info Session, Room 306
This information session is mandatory if your major is Art or if you are registered for Art and Art History classes at TUJ.

3PM-5PM Lottery Time!, Cafeteria
A lottery for those that collected 4 stickers in their Welcome Week Passbook. Come and try your luck at winning some cool TUJ merch!

4PM-5PM Course Add/Drop Request Session, Room 108a
Looking to adjust your course registration? Decide what changes you'd like to make and join this session to have your requests processed on the spot! More information can be found displayed outside room 102.

Friday, May 23rd - Attendance Mandatory

9AM-1PM SA Dormitory Ward Office Visits
Ward Office Visits for Study Abroad students.
Please ensure you go at the appropriate time to your Ward Office visit. You will receive more information upon checking into the dorm.

12PM-3PM Club Fair with TUJ Clubs, Parliament Student Lounge (Next to Cafeteria)
TUJ Clubs have prepared some workshops and fun things to do in the Cafeteria and Parliament! Stop by for a minute and enjoy this opportunity to make some friends while having fun!

2PM-3PM Being the Best You – Stress Management and Self-Care, Rooms 301 and 303 
The transition to college or life in a new country is for sure exciting but can be stressful. The TUJ Counseling Office invites you to a discussion on how to take good care of yourself while experiencing an exciting transition to a new environment.

2PM-3PM Credit Internship Info Session, Room 304
This session is mandatory if you are scheduled to do an internship during your stay at TUJ.

3PM-4PM Visa Info Session, Rooms 303 & 303
In this session, we will teach you the essentials of the Japanese visa regulations. This session is MANDATORY for all Study Abroad students.

4PM-5PM Course Add/Drop Request Session, Room 108a
Looking to adjust your course registration? Decide what changes you'd like to make and join this session to have your requests processed on the spot! More information can be found displayed outside room 102.

4PM-5PM "Hooter Hunt" Scavenger Game, Starting at 1F Front Desk 
Explore TUJ in the most fun way! Join this scavenger game where you will be exploring the whole TUJ campus... and hopefully win some prizes!

5:00PM-7:30PM New Students Welcome Reception, Cafeteria and Parliament 
To celebrate the end of the New Students Welcome week, we have prepared a reception with Dean Wilson. There will be lots of food, lots of opportunities to make friends... and a very special guest!

Saturday, May 24th

10AM-1PM Explore Tokyo, with TUJ Student Workers 
How about exploring Tokyo before the semester begins? TUJ Student Workers will be accompanying you to some of the most iconic areas in Tokyo! This is the perfect chance to make some friends and have fun before classes start!

Planned tours:

  • Asakusa Tour
  • Harajuku and Shibuya Tour
  • Nakano and Shinjuku Tour

Tours are subject to modifications and changes
