This schedule is for Japan Admit Students attending Temple University Japan's Tokyo Campus only. Japan Admit students applied to TUJ directly and will study at TUJ for about 1 to 4 years. *Kyoto Campus students should receive information on their Welcome Week schedule through email. Your arrival to Japan and to TUJ is getting closer! We are very excited to welcome you into the TUJ community this Summer semester!

Getting connected with other students, faculty, and staff, as well as exploring your interests is an essential part of any college experience. We have put together a New Students Welcome Week program full of activities and sessions that we hope puts you on track to accomplishing exactly this!

Below you will find the calendar that will give you an overlook of what will happen during this week. Below that, you will find the week’s schedule in detail and a registration form to sign-up for a variety of sessions. The sessions are designed to be informative and fun, and we hope there is something there that interests you! The Visa Information Session for visa-sponsored students is mandatory, while the other sessions are optional. Several of the sessions have capacity limits so please double-check your schedule and make sure you are able to attend the sessions you are signing up for.

*Students will be provided with a small sticker passbook during Welcome Week! The sessions with a ticket icon next to them (🎟️) are sessions that will provide stickers to fill the passbook. Filling up your passbook will give you the chance to win some great prizes, so make sure to join as many sessions as possible!

**The following schedule is for Tokyo Campus students only. Kyoto Campus students should receive information on their Welcome Week schedule through email. Please contact for more information.

Schedule by Day

Friday, May 16th

10AM-12PM Parents Reception, Parliament Student Lounge (Next to Cafeteria)
Designed to welcome and connect parents of incoming students with TUJ faculty and staff, this session offers information about TUJ, its academic programs and resources, student services, policies, and expectations. It is also a great space to address any concerns or questions parents may have about their child's college experience at TUJ. 
Registration for this event is required - new students should have received a registration form in their email.

For Visa Sponsored JA students staying in the dorms: Group ward office Visits are pre-scheduled. Upon checking in your dorm on Thursday, May 15th, you will receive more instructions.

For Visa Sponsored JA students at independent housing or homestay: Please make sure you visit your local ward office according to your new address. 

If you don't fall in any of the above two categories, this is a free day for you.

Saturday, May 17th

10AM-2PM Explore Tokyo, with TUJ Student Workers 
Join in on the fun and go on an adventure with current Owls around Tokyo! TUJ Student Workers will be accompanying you to some of the most iconic areas in Tokyo! This is the perfect chance to make some friends and have fun before classes start!

  • Harajuku and Shibuya Tour
  • Nakano and Shinjuku Tour

Sunday, May 18th

This is a free day for you! Go ahead and explore Tokyo on your own or take the day to have a nice rest! 

Monday, May 19th

9AM-4PM Discover Kawagoe Day Trip, Kawagoe
An outing to Kawagoe for Japan Admit students with our fantastic student workers from OSSE! On this trip we will visit what is known as “Koedo” or little Edo, as its streets, full of stores and antique shops, preserve numerous buildings from the Edo period. You will have free time to explore the town and experience a bit of history first-hand in Japan! 

This is the perfect chance to make some friends and have fun before the on-campus welcome week sessions begin! Please register for this trip through the Welcome Week Registration Form.

Tuesday, May 20th

9AM-10AM Building Tour of TUJ, Cafeteria 
Building tours start from 9:15 at the cafeteria. Student Workers will show you around the TUJ and SWU (Showa Women's University) campuses so you can familiarize yourself with the facilities and visit the student support offices.  

10AM-11AM Intro to Academics & GenEd, Parliament Student Lounge (Next to Cafeteria)
This panel introduces students to academic life at TUJ and showcases the experiences of current students and faculty. To help students transition smoothly to TUJ, an overview of the General Education program, academic expectations, and various course experiences will be explored. 

11AM-12PM Majors Sessions, 3rd & 6th Floor Classrooms 
Find your friends for life from day one! Meet late-night study buddies, future partners on group projects, and faculty mentors in your major at this session. Professors will discuss major requirements, upcoming courses, and opportunities during and after TUJ. 

12PM-1PM Lunch with Admissions Counseling, Cafeteria 
Lunch is served! Come to the TUJ Cafeteria and have lunch with fellow classmates. Food will be provided by our Admissions Counseling Department; the good folks who helped you get admitted to TUJ!

1PM-2PM How to College, (Recommended for 1st-year students, but anyone can join!), Parliament Student Lounge
In this session, you’ll learn time management and study techniques, as well as how to use support services, including the Career Development Office who will support you if you are planning to find a job in Japan after you graduate! Recommended for first-year students! 

2PM-3PM Hoot for Diversity - Students' Sharing their Multicultural Journeys at TUJ, Rooms 301 and 303 
Start building your community at TUJ with a fun Q&A session with current students! In this session, you will get insider tips from current students with diverse backgrounds and be able to ask specific questions about living in Japan and being an Owl at TUJ!

2PM-3PM Last-Minute Registration Session with AAC, Room 306 
Recommended for students who have not yet registered or have major registration changes.

3PM-4PM Japan Post Bank Session, Computer Lab (Room 506) 
While living in Japan, you will need to open a bank account! International new students will need to use Japan Post Bank in order to open an account. This session is to assist you scheduling an appointment with Japan Post Bank.

3PM-5PM Lottery Time! Cafeteria 
For those that attended all the main sessions on this day and collected 4 different stickers in their Welcome Week Pass Book! This is a chance to win some free TUJ swag!

 

Wednesday, May 21st

This is a free day for you! Go ahead and explore Tokyo on your own or take the day to have a nice rest! 

Thursday, May 22nd

9AM-4PM Discover Enoshima Day Trip, Enoshima Island
An outing to Enoshima for Japan Admit students with our fantastic student workers from OSSE! On this visit, we will go to Enoshima Island and explore all it has to offer, from shrines, parks, incredible views of the ocean, and more! You will have free time to roam the island, where you can check out the observation tower and caves that line the back coast of the island! 

This is the perfect chance to make some friends and have some fun exploring Japan during welcome week! Please register for this trip through the Welcome Week Registration Form.

Friday, May 23rd

10AM-11AM Living in Japan Info Session, Rooms 301 and 303 
In this session, we will teach you the essentials of living in Japan! In addition, we will provide you with some mental health resources while living in Japan.

11AM-12PM Veteran & GI Bill Info Session, Rooms 312 and 314
As part of the New Students Welcome Week, TUJ has included an info session for veterans and students using the GI Bill at TUJ. 

12PM-3PM Club Fair! Workshops and Activities by TUJ Clubs, Parliament Student Lounge (Next to Cafeteria)
TUJ Clubs have prepared some workshops and fun things to do in the Cafeteria and Parliament! Stop by for a minute and enjoy this opportunity to make some friends while having fun

1PM-2PM Travel in Japan Info Session, Rooms 301 and 303
Our Student Engagement Team has prepared a presentation about traveling in Japan!
Learn about the activities and trips Engagement has planned for the semester, as well as tips and recommendations for planning your own excursions!!

2PM-3PM Being the Best You – Stress Management and Self-Care, Rooms 301 and 303 
The transition to college or life in a new country is for sure exciting but can be stressful. The TUJ Counseling Office invites you to a discussion on how to take good care of yourself while experiencing an exciting transition to a new environment. 

2PM-3PM Money makes the term go ‘round - Financial Aid Session- (Recommended for students using U.S. Financial Aid), Rooms 312 and 314
No, money does not grow on trees. And, yes, you do have to pay that loan back. >_< 
This session is to better help you understand how the financial aid system works at TUJ and give you some tips on fiscal responsibility

3PM-4PM Where do you want to go? Study Abroad with Temple, Rooms 301 and 303 
Welcome to Tokyo, and we are happy to see you in Japan finally! Now it’s time to think about leaving Japan…whether to explore Temple campuses in Philadelphia or in Rome, or to study abroad through Temple exchanges in South Korea, Taiwan, or the UK. Discover study abroad options for TUJ students and start thinking about where your next destination will be.

3PM-4PM "Hooter Hunt" Scavenger Game, Starting at 1F Front Desk 
Explore TUJ in the most fun way! Join this scavenger game where you will be exploring the whole TUJ campus... and hopefully win some prizes!

4PM-5PM Visa Info Session - MANDATORY for ALL students studying at TUJ under a student visa, Rooms 301 & 303
If you are going to be studying at TUJ on a student visa (including those who switched from another school in Japan) then you MUST attend this session!

5:00PM-7:30PM New Students Welcome Reception, Cafeteria, and Parliament 
To celebrate the end of the New Students Welcome week, we have prepared a reception with Dean Wilson. There will be lots of food, lots of opportunities to make friends... and a very special guest!
