About the Library

The TUJ library holds over books and provides access to thousands of periodical titles. Special strengths of the collection include American studies, political science, language teaching and linguistics, Asian art history, and religion. The library has done extensive purchasing of rare and out of print materials for our Asian and Japanese history collections.

In addition, Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) students and faculty have access to the vast holdings of the Temple University Libraries in Philadelphia including thousands of e-books and streaming video sites.

If you plan to visit and use the TUJ's Library’s resources, it is important that you familiarize yourself with our policies and procedures.

LOST & FOUND

While in the library, don’t leave any personal belongings unattended. The library is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, nor is library staff able to watch your belongings.

If you suspect that you have lost an item while in the library, please visit the library Circulation Desk. If the item is not there, you should contact the TUJ Information Center on the 1st floor of the building.

CONDUCT IN THE LIBRARY

TUJ and the TUJ Library seek to maintain a safe, orderly, constructive campus environment that fosters freedom to learn and respect for all members of the university community. The library follows the standards set in TUJ's Student Conduct Code.

WHILE USING THE LIBRARY

  • Treat each other and library spaces with respect.

  • Keep your voice down so that others are not disturbed.

  • The library is a quiet space. If you're taking Zoom classes and will be talking, please use room study room 206A, an Owl Cove, or an unused classroom in the building. You can also reserve an Individual Study Booth  located in the library (requires TU login to make a reservation)

  • Turn your cell phones to vibrate, and take calls outside.

  • Use headphones when listening to electronic devices. You can check out headphones from the front desk if needed.

  • Please do collaborative or group work in a Group Study Room .

  • Return your materials on time so that others may use them.

  • Avoid leaving personal items unattended. Watch your valuables at all times.

  • Please no shoes on the furniture.

  • Any activities, objects or odors that make other patrons or employees uncomfortable, or pose a hazard, are not allowed.

FOOD, DRINKING AND SMOKING IN THE LIBRARY

  • Drinks (in covered containers) are permitted.

  • No food deliveries, food parties or group meals are allowed except in relation to college-sponsored events.

  • Smoking is prohibited. See Campus Smoking Policy.

  • Do not leave trash behind, please throw your trash away properly.

FILMING OR PHOTOGRAPHY

If you wish to film or photograph in the TUJ Library, you must request permission at least two days before the proposed filming and/or photography. Before submitting a request to , please review the following policies first:

  • Filming and/or photography may not take place until your request has been approved by a library staff member.

  • Filming and/or photography must be campus or class related.

  • The person submitting the request must be present at all times during filming and/or photographing.

  • Filming and/or photography must take place only on the specified dates and only in the specified areas as outlined on your request.

    • Filming and/or photography is not permitted in service areas, staff areas, or restrooms.

    • Filming and/or photography must not block or obstruct walkways, corridors, or exits.

  • Filming and/or photography must not disturb the regular functions or operations of the library, its users, or staff.

    • Moving furniture or materials is not permitted.

    • Any equipment used, including artificial lighting, must not disturb library users and may not interfere with library operations.

    • Your project (including your cast, crew, and equipment) must not create any safety or trip hazards.

  • You must provide your own subjects. You may not film or photograph library users or staff without their written consent.

  • All persons in your cast and crew must abide by the library’s policies and TUJ's Student Code of Conduct at all times.
