Tetsujin: I chose IBM for the following three reasons:
1.My interest in both the company itself and digital marketing
2.The diversity of employees of the company
3.A corporate culture of "changing constantly"
Tetsujin: I have had two major projects during my internship. I had to make a presentation comparing social media use across companies and analyze what ideas IBM could apply to their social media sites. I also wrote a blog post about a research project called "Automotive 2025". In that blog, I had to give a brief overview of the article and provided my own thoughts on the subject.
Tetsujin: I've learned general business skills such as time management and business manners as well as digital marketing skills like search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), marketing automation, and the use of social media in business-to-business marketing.
Tetsujin: The biggest challenge I faced was working with uncertainty. For my research, there was no specific instructions on how or what to look for. I just had a request to compare companies on their usage of social media. To cope with that I set waypoints for myself and kept moving. Every time I make a brief situation report in the daily meeting, I looked at the supervisors and noted the points where they seemed to be interested. From those observations, I decided my next goal and moved forward.
Tetsujin: I think I will be able to assimilate to the work environment faster when I get a job, having experienced a business environment in a very large company.
Tetsujin: Yes, IBM Japan provides a professional, fast-paced business environment. You will be surrounded by insightful workers and will be able to learn a great amount. If you are interested in marketing in the IT area, this internship would definitely be a good choice.
